This 6-day trip takes you through the misty highlands of Shillong, along the crystal-clear Dawki River for cliff jumping and boating, into the neat lanes of Mawlynnong - Asia's cleanest village, and deep into the forest to trek down 3,300 steps to the legendary Double Decker Living Root Bridge. The final two days are spent chasing some of the most powerful waterfalls on earth around Cherrapunji. A decent fitness level helps, but the reward is completely worth it. Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your adventure begins the moment you land in Guwahati. Your driver will be waiting at the airport to receive you, and from there you set off on a 3-hour drive up into the hills of Meghalaya. Along the way you stop at Umiam Lake, a large reservoir set against rolling green hills where the water reflects the sky on clear days. It is one of those places where you find yourself pausing longer than planned. By evening you arrive in Shillong and have some time to explore Police Bazar, the lively heart of the city with its street food, local shops and everyday energy. Check in, settle in, and get some rest before the real adventure begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

October to April is the best window for this trip. October and November are especially good for the trek as the post-monsoon forest is at its most vivid and the weather is clear and cool. December to February has a proper winter feel with great visibility. March and April are pleasant before the heat builds. The monsoon from June to September brings very heavy rainfall which makes the Double Decker trek slippery and road trips risky, so that stretch is best avoided.
